Student learning will include identifying and using the principles of space, time, voice, and movement in creating, sustaining, and communicating authentic roles within a drama. Students will assume responsibility for decisions made in the creation and presentation of the drama and will analyze and reflect on the experience. |

| This course builds upon the skills introduced and explored in Grades 9 and 10. This course requires students to create and to perform dramatic presentations. Students will research, analyze, interpret, and perform works of drama from various times and cultures; including Shakespearean plays, Contemporary North American plays, and Western plays from the turn of the 20th century. Students will also do research on different acting styles and conventions for their presentations, create original works, and analyze the functions of playwright, director, actor, producer, designer, technician, and audience.

| Students research acting and directing styles when preparing both original work and selected scripts for presentation. Building on co-operative skills and creative collaboration, students work within the culture of ensemble and experience the creative dynamics of a theatre company while preparing both their own scripts and the scripts of their classmates. Creative writing assignments will help prepare students for writing monologues, and short scenes, culminating in the creation of a one-act play.

| This course requires students to experiment with dramatic forms and conventions, and to create and present a variety of dramatic works. Students will study works by Canadians and other playwrights, and develop original material based on personal narratives, local community issues, or global concerns. They will have hands-on experiences with various aspects of dramatic arts productions, including researching, writing, directing, performing, set design, lighting, costumes, stage and technical management, and marketing. | This course examines the historical development of film, from its nineteenth-century origins to the present day. As well as improving students' general knowledge of world-cinema, past and present, the course will endeavor to enhance their ability to deal critically on a daily basis with an influential medium. Students will watch a wide variety of films and respond to what they see in a number of forms including film review response journals, reflection papers and oral presentations, tests and quizzes will be given on a regular basis.
